Pinelands Ratepayers and Residents Association

Rates Valuation Meeting
Tuesday 23rd March
There will be a Special General Meeting of the Pinelands Ratepayers' and Residents' Association at which Mr Christopher Gavor, Director: Valuations, will be the main speaker. The meeting will be held at the Oude Molen Academy of Science and Technology on Jan Smuts Drive on Tuesday 23rd March from 6pm to 7.30pm. Doors open from 5.30pm. All are welcome.

PRRA General Meeting: 17 Feb in the Pinelands Town Hall.

Informal Settlements - The Challenge for Cape Town
Gerry Adlard, Development Consultant of Cape Town, gave a presentation. Informal settlements exist within a broader context of deprivation, poverty, urbanisation and the unavailability of land and finance. The presentation explained these issues and their implications regarding informal settlements, the challenges and possible responses.

The Jammie Shuttle
Sharon Timlin, Vice chairperson Pinelands Neighborhood Watch, gave a summary of the Jammie Shuttle issue and the ongoing efforts to make the service available in Pinelands. There will be a public meeting on Wed 17 March at which a number of issues, including transport will be discussed. The venue is St Stephens Church Hall, Central Square, Pinelands. Time: 19h00 for 19h30.

Wildlife Photographer of the Year Exhibition • until 13 March 2010

The Wildlife Photographer of the Year competition is owned by the Natural History Museum of London and BBC Wildlife Magazine. It is an international showcase for the very best photography worldwide featuring natural subjects, which emphasize the beauty, wonder and importance of the natural world.
The competition draws thousands of entries, and this year it attracted a record-breaking 43,135 entries from 94 countries. The winners of the 2009 competition were announced at an Awards ceremony in October at the Natural History Museum, London. These 95 winning photographs will be exhibited at the Iziko South African museum in Cape Town.

The Cape Town Festival • Fri 19 Mar - Mon 22 Mar

The Cape Town Festival, born out of the 'One City, Many Cultures' campaign, will be reaching out to the continent this year, in line with our country's hosting of the 2010 Soccer World Cup.
Festival organisers are negotiating with popular African artists such as Angolan R&B singer Ansellmo Ralph and Nigerian Two Face Idibia, of African Queen fame to perform at Cape Town Festival 2010. "This year's festival will be bigger and better than ever before", said Cape Town Festival chairperson Ryland Fisher. "Our aim is to present a celebration that would make the people of Cape Town proud and showcase our beautiful city to the world. By inviting popular artists from throughout the continent, we want to showcase Cape Town as a proudly African city." This year's festival will run over four days. Human Rights Day is on Sunday 21 March, which means that Monday 22 March will be a public holiday. The concerts will again be accompanied by a food, arts and craft market.
